Do you wish your elected officials were doing more to make mental health care effective and accessible? Your voice can help! Learn how to advocate effectively, build confidence, and influence policymakers. Join us and get empowered at our next NAMI Smarts for Advocacy training!
What's the Opportunity?
-
NAMI Smarts helps community members like you become more effective and confident advocates for better mental health care.
Use your story to help make a change for mental health in Vermont. Your advocacy efforts will promote recovery and build better lives for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
Who Can Be an Advocate?
-
Any member of the community who is passionate about mental health and is excited to get involved with Vermont's elected officials.
All advocates should be at a comfortable place in recovery (yours or your loved one's) and feel comfortable sharing your story.
What to Expect:
Meet other dedicated and empathetic people, just like you!
Feel great about making your voice heard and urging Vermont's policymakers to improve mental health care in our state.
As an advocate for mental health, you will contact lawmakers and ask them to support bills and other measures that will make a real difference for individuals with mental health conditions in Vermont.
Attend a four-hour virtual training to become an effective advocate. This training is helpful for those new to advocacy as well as folks with more experience! We have trainings scheduled on November 16 and December 15.
Commit to participating in at least one Mental Health Advocacy Day (occurs each year in January) within 2 years of training.
