Description

The UVM 4-H Program is seeking one-time volunteers to evaluate projects at our upcoming contest called 4-H State Day which will be held on Saturday, May 7 at the Vermont Granite Museum in Barre. Youth from across Vermont come to participate in public speaking, demonstrations, stage presentations, and tabletop exhibits. We need community members like you to help us make this a successful event where youth receive valuable feedback on their projects. There are also opportunities for evaluating projects virtually as well.

We have a rubric for each category and hold an orientation at the start of the day for evaluators. Evaluators are assigned to a category and there is typically a minimum of two evaluators per category. Depending on the category, evaluators typically arrive at 8:30am for orientation but can leave after they are done evaluating, unless they would like to stay for awards which happen around 1:00pm.

Exhibit categories to be evaluated include:

  • Stage – Performance art like singing, dancing, or playing an instrument
  • Table Tops – Static tri-fold exhibits on a topic of the youth’s choice
  • Photography – Traditional and photo-based design photography. *Judged in advance of State Day
  • Maker/Tinker – Projects that include a combination of science, technology, engineering, and art to invent something new or solve a problem
  • 4-H Promotional Video – One-minute videos that share why members enjoy their 4-H experience, *Judged in advance of State Day
  • Communications – Individual and Group Demonstrations, Illustrated Talk, and Public Speaking
  • Action Exhibits – A presentation conducted with 4-8 youth where a step-by-step process is explained to the audience

Please consider joining us for this high energy and fun morning connecting with 4-H youth. Please email me at Allison.smith.2@uvm.edu or call at 802-651-8343 x509 with your interest. Thank you!
