Who We Are
Mission: To advocate for the best interests of children involved in abuse, neglect, and other family court cases.
The Vermont Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) Program is a volunteer-driven initiative that plays a crucial role in the state’s family court system. Guardians ad litem are court-appointed volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children involved in legal cases, particularly those related to abuse, neglect, or other matters where the welfare of a child is at risk.
What We Do
A GAL gets to know the child by independently reviewing the facts of the case on behalf of the child. A GAL interviews parties that are close to the child or involved in the case such as the child herself, their parents, agency mental health partners, medical professionals and anyone who’s input will assist the GAL in making a recommendation to the court pertaining to the child’s best interests.
