Who We Are

Mission: To inspire and engage everyone in the joy of scientific discovery, wonder of nature, and care of Lake Champlain.

ECHO is a science and nature museum located on the Lake Champlain waterfront. ECHO is committed to engaging diverse public audiences and providing experiential, relevant and lifelong educational experiences for all our guests. Founded in 2003, ECHO houses more than 70 species of live animal ambassadors in Vermont’s first LEED certified building. This innovative science center and aquarium displays life in the Champlain Basin and inspires visitors to positively impact the world around them. ECHO is the public face of the Patrick and Marcelle Leahy Center for Lake Champlain, a 2.7 acre environmental campus on the Burlington Waterfront.

What We Do

ECHO Leahy Center offers a variety of educational services, including hands-on exhibits, interactive displays, and live animal demonstrations to engage visitors of all ages in learning about the natural world. The center provides programs and workshops focused on environmental science, sustainability, and conservation, aimed at students, families, and individuals. ECHO also offers summer camps and educational outreach for schools, helping to foster environmental stewardship in young people. In addition to its exhibits, the center provides special events, lectures, and community programs that highlight the importance of protecting Lake Champlain and its ecosystems. Through these services, ECHO works to inspire a deep connection to the natural world and encourage sustainable practices in the community.
