Volunteer: Share Your Mental Health Story as a Family Member with NAMI Vermont!

We often hear from individuals living with mental health conditions, but it’s important to recognize that these conditions can create a ripple effect, impacting their families and loved ones. The voices of family members are frequently overlooked. NAMI Vermont wants to emphasize the importance and power you hold by encouraging you to share your stories. Join us and raise your voice!

What's the Opportunity?

Your presentations empower others as you share your story as a family member.

Use your lived experience to raise awareness, break down stigma, and help others see that there is always hope.

Family Voices presentations are often hosted by public spaces such as libraries or membership-based organizations. You and another presenter will share your stories, featuring coping strategies that work for you and what your hopes and dreams are for the future. Each presentation is approximately 60 minutes long and always ends on a note of hope!

Who Can Be a Presenter?

Anyone who has a loved one living with a mental health condition and is ready to share their story to help others is encouraged to join!

What to Expect:

Meet other dedicated and empathetic people, just like you!

Feel great about raising awareness about mental health and celebrating your resilience.

NAMI Vermont provides training, led by two people who are also family members of individuals living with a mental health condition. Volunteers can select a virtual or in-person training option.

Volunteer: Volunteer as a Travel Advisor with Ride Together, GMT's new travel training program!

Looking to serve your community in a meaningful, lasting way? Join us at Ride Together to make an impact now!  What is Ride Together?

Ride Together is a free travel training program dedicated to providing community members with short-term, focused instruction on how to ride the city bus, specifically GMT's fixed route public transit system. Learning how to use the city bus can be daunting for many types of people and for many different reasons, so our program is designed to be flexible and personalized to address the needs of every individual. Public transit is a cheap and manageable way to maintain independence and mobility -- we're happy to help you get there!

What is a Travel Advisor?

Travel Advisors are volunteers that facilitate travel training in two ways:

Classroom instruction, where a Travel Advisor will provide a comprehensive overview of navigating GMT fixed route transportation, including topics such as reading bus schedules, planning and making a bus trip, utilizing the Transit app, maneuvering mobility devices, paying the fare, using bike racks, and practicing bus etiquette and safety. Can be one-to-one or in a group; can be remote or in-person. Field instruction, where classroom knowledge is put into practice on a real GMT bus, accompanied by a Travel Advisor. Can be one-to-one or in a group; must be in-person.

Volunteer schedules are flexible and will be arranged depending on the availability of the volunteer. Free training is provided by GMT. Committed volunteers will receive free bus passes to encourage continued community assistance, usable on any GMT bus when fares resume on March 6, 2024.

Interested?

Apply online HERE or download the printable version HERE. For more information and a full job description, visit the Ride Together webpage on the GMT website. Feel free to contact us at any time at ridetogether@ridegmt.com or call Volunteer Manager Irene Choi at 802-540-6873 ext. 550.
