Who We Are

Mission: To partner with financial donors, local families, and community volunteers to build and sell affordable homes in Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Lamoille Counties.

Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building affordable housing for low-income families in Vermont. Part of the global Habitat for Humanity network, the organization focuses on providing safe, decent, and affordable homes to families in need. Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity works with volunteers, donors, and partner families to construct homes, offering a hand up, not a handout, by involving families in the building process through “sweat equity.” The organization aims to break the cycle of poverty by empowering families to achieve homeownership, leading to greater stability, financial independence, and improved quality of life.

What We Do

Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity provides a variety of services centered around building and financing affordable homes. The organization constructs new homes for low-income families, with the help of volunteers and partner families who contribute labor through sweat equity. They offer interest-free mortgages and provide support to homeowners in maintaining their homes. Green Mountain Habitat also operates ReStores, which sell donated building materials, furniture, and appliances at discounted prices, with proceeds going towards their housing projects. Additionally, the organization educates families on financial literacy and homeownership skills, helping them to succeed as long-term homeowners. Through these services, Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity helps to create stable, affordable housing and fosters community development.
