Who We Are

Mission: To collect and preserve historical and cultural material relevant to our community, and to display and interpret selected material from the collections for the education and enjoyment of the public.

The Saint Albans Historical Society was founded in 1966 by a committee of area leaders and volunteers who were interested in preserving and sharing our community heritage. Early meetings featured lectures and slide presentations in members’ homes. In 1971, the historical society acquired the former Church Street Academy building at 9 Church St. and converted it into the Franklin County Museum (later the St. Albans Historical Museum, and now simply the Saint Albans Museum). Over the years, our non-profit organization has developed into an award-winning museum, with seasonal exhibits and year-round educational programming.

What We Do

Over the years, our non-profit organization has developed into an award-winning museum, with seasonal exhibits and year-round educational and public programming. The three-story museum residing in a circa 1861 brick school house in downtown St. Albans houses collections of historical and cultural significance to St. Albans and the surrounding region. We preserve and display these collections for visitors throughout the summer season. We also hold events and programming year-round built for a variety of ages and interests.
